Background checks
What the employer, landlord or board actually sees
Clearing a record in court is half of it. The other half is making sure the checks that employers, landlords and licensing boards run say the same thing. We work on both.
Background companies copy court records, and they don't always update when a record is cleared. Some mix up two people with the same name. A dispute is a right you have, and we'll help you use it.
Where it comes up
Four situations we see all the time
A check shows a record that was cleared
We gather proof of the order, write to the company and follow up until the report is corrected.
A check shows someone else's record
A mixed-up identity happens more than you would think. We help you dispute it and ask for a corrected copy.
A job offer or lease was pulled
You are entitled to be told what the report said and to answer it. We explain the steps and the deadlines.
A licensing board asks about your past
Trades, health care, driving and child-care licenses often ask. We help you answer accurately and show what has changed.

How do I get a copy of my own background check?
Employers must tell you when they use a report. You can also ask the company directly for yours. We can help you find which companies hold one.
How long does a correction take?
Companies have set time limits to respond to a dispute. We keep the dates and follow up if one passes.
Should I tell an employer about my record before they run a check?
It depends on the job and on whether the record can be cleared first. Bring the application and we'll talk it through.
